Mark Buehrle Throws a Perfect Game

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Mark Buehrle has thrown a perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays in Chicago. The White Sox were 5-0 winners on Thursday afternoon. Jim Thome, a teammate of Buehrle’s, has now been a part of a no-hitter (Kevin Millwood in 2003 with the Phillies) and now a perfect game with Buehrle. Buehrle also pitched a no-hitter in 2007 against the Texas Rangers. This is the 18th perfect game in Major League Baseball history and the 17th during the regular season. Buehrle racked up six strikeouts during his perfect outing and was helped by an incredible defensive play by DeWayne Wise in the top of the ninth. With no one out and Gabe Kapler at the plate, Wise tracked a monster fly ball to the wall in center field, lept, and made a circus catch to preserve perfection. Buehrle is now 11-3 on the season and is looking to win 20 games in a season for the first time in his career.
